I took this photo one winter’s afternoon from the Mercer Bay Loop track
lookout, overlooking Mercer Bay, Karekare, and the outer edges of
Whatipu Beach in the far distance. The cliffs in the two headlands in
the foreground are the tallest in Auckland at 60m (200ft) and there are
no guardrails along most of the edges so it can definitely be a bit of a
headspin when you dangle your feet over the edge and lean over to look
down at the water crashing against the rocks below.
