This is a composite image composed of a 10 min foreground exposure which
I then promptly followed with capturing hundreds of 30 second exposures
of the sky to reveal the movement of the stars over the course of 2 and
a half hours above Whatipu Beach on the West Coast of Auckland, New
Zealand, right at the entrance to the Manukau Harbour where it meets the
Tasman Sea. It was a challenging shoot, as I had to basically
‘bush-wack’ my way up a steep headland through dense bush and tussuck
and slippery black sand with all my gear in the dark to get to the flat
outcrop of rock at the top from which I wanted to shoot. As I have a
pain condition, this resulted in weeks of pain. But I am pleased with
the result.
